It may be the relative calm before the storm with the world’s most famous horserace, the Randox Grand National, just seven days away, but try telling that to Harry Skelton and Brian Hughes, the two protagonists in a titanic tussle for the British jumps jockeys’ championship.

After a 24-hour Good Friday-enforced break, the Skelton hurricane, which has rushed through Stratford (four winners), Warwick (two), Southwell (three) and Uttoxeter (one) this week, rips into Haydock for three rides.

Reigning champion Hughes, who has seen his lead wiped out by Skelton since Cheltenham, goes to Carlisle for a highly attractive book of six rides.
