William Haggas is not one for sentiment and he was true to that last week when he calmly and methodically laid out Baaeed's farewell tour to the Racing Post.

For those of us who had not prepared, there was a pang of sadness in seeing it written down. Baaeed is brilliant, unbeaten in eight starts and the first horse in a decade to give off a genuine air of invincibility. It seems we will only have three more races in which to bask in his glow: Wednesday's Sussex Stakes, the Juddmonte at York and the Champion Stakes at Ascot.
