Of the four major divisions in jump racing, the one most accessible to older horses at the top level is two-mile chasing. At least that is what the evidence of the last decade or so suggests.

Logically, it might have been expected that one of the staying categories was kindest to veterans, but analysts at the Racing Post have published statistics in the last year which show that not to be the case. The counter-intuitive bent towards youth in staying chases is even starting to seep into the received wisdom.
