Charlie Appleby sends promising Sayyida in search of Group 3 glory
Charlie Appleby is looking forward to stepping recent Listed second Sayyida up in class for the Group 3 Prix Minerve (4.00) at Deauville.
The three-year-old, who finished half a length behind Save A Forest at Newmarket last time, will bid to join an illustrious roll of honour, which includes last year's winner and Arc hopeful Wonderful Tonight.
"We were delighted with her first run in Listed company last time. She heads to Deauville in good order and stays well," said Appleby.
The British and Irish challenge is completed by Citronnade and Free Wind, who was second behind Golden Pass in the Aphrodite Fillies' Stakes at Newmarket for trainers John and Thady Gosden.
"She ran very well last time and has enjoyed stepping up in trip," said Thady Gosden. "She stays well and it's an easy enough mile and a half at Deauville. This race should suit her down to the ground."
The market is likely to be headed by Burgarita, who finished third in the Prix de Diane, or the French Oaks, for Andre Fabre. She was a Listed winner at Longchamp on her penultimate start in May.
"She's doing well and I'm pleased with her," said the trainer. "I hope she breaks better than the last twice and we've tried to inject some speed into her start so we'll see. The mile and a half should suit her."
There are several British-trained runners at Deauville, including The Wizard Of Eye and Oneforthegutter, who contest the Circus Maximus Prix Francois Boutin (12.58) for Stan Moore and Ian Williams, while Latest Generation and Laos line up in the Listed Prix Nureyev (3.25).
