Draw ceremonies are much maligned and often with good reason. The only people to whom they are genuinely, if tenuously, useful are punters. Getting a sense of where those drawn out early want to be positioned is just another little clue towards knowing where the race might unfold.
There was no draw ceremony for this year's Ayr Gold Cup, but you have to wonder where favourite Great Ambassador's connections would have chosen had Robbie Savage or the reigning Miss Scotland pulled his name out first.
