The Flat turf season ends officially on Saturday but is already absent two days out, as the jumps and all-weather supply the British and Irish action on Thursday.

Newbury's jumps season begins with a card that promises plenty, with some indicative novices, over hurdles and fences, plus a couple of strong handicaps.

There is black type on offer at Market Rasen courtesy of a Listed mares' chase at 2.00, while Ludlow and Thurles complete the afternoon diet.

In the evening, Flat fans have their time with a seven-race card at Chelmsford, which includes a high-quality handicap.

Final thought

It is hard not to feel sorry for Paddy Brennan in the Cue Card story that is likely to rumble on at least until the Betfair Chase. Besides anything else, two of the three falls the pair suffered came at the same, notoriously tricky fence at Cheltenham.
