You have to love jumps racing sometimes. There is a Class 2 handicap chase at Ludlow today for which the winner will receive just over £13,600, but 35 minutes later the winner of the grand-titled Ludlow Gold Cup will take home just £3,700 to go with their silverware.

Today's Gold Cup is a hunters' chase and unlikely to be confused with the one that took place six days ago, but certain runners in the field, such as Opening Batsman and Grandioso, were very smart chasers in their day.

The supporting jumps action comes from Chepstow and Cork, while there is all-weather provided by Wolverhampton in the afternoon and Chelmsford in the evening.

Final thought

Today is one of those little wrinkles in the programme that concentrates the meetings closer together than ideal. It wouldn't be too difficult to see at least one race live from each of the three afternoon fixtures, although you would probably miss the Ludlow Gold Cup.
