Have a lie-in if you are here for the all-weather, as Thursday afternoon is all about the jumps in both Britain and Ireland.

There is plenty of good handicap action on offer at Market Rasen, Leicester and Wincanton in Britain and Clonmel over the water.

Nominally, the highlight is Wincanton's 1.35, run in memory of 1982 Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Silver Buck.

Chelmsford comes along in the evening, more than an hour and a half after the jumps wrap up, but would be competitive with any of the afternoon cards in terms of grading.

Those of a certain persuasion will also enjoy Meydan, where it is still early days in the UAE season, but it is always good to get ahead before the Carnival begins.

What to back

Got ten seconds? Good, here's a tip for Market Rasen:

What to read

A GambleAware conference admittedly does not sound like a barrel of laughs, but there was no mincing of words from its chair.

With the John Durkan Chase coming up this weekend, we look back on the all-too-brief life of the man who bought Istabraq.

What to watch

The weekend is drawing closer, check out the Postcast on the Tingle Creek and Becher Chase.

The best of Racing Post Sport

Enough time might have elapsed to read our analysis of the second Ashes test without feeling too much pain.

In the Thursday column, Bruce Millington gives his assessment on a couple of emerging co-commentators.

Final thought

Whether real or exaggerated, the Douvan situation ahead of Tingle Creek declarations could hardly have come at a worse time for the sport, with the Altior and Tango Sky affairs still ringing in the ears. We do not know who is and is not in the dark, all we can say with certainty is that the betting public fall into the first category.
