Owner of Derby no-hoper Diore Lia put on forfeit list

The owner of Diore Lia, the low-rated filly whose planned participation in this year's Derby caused plenty of controversy, has been placed on the forfeit list.

The BHA confirmed that Mary Todd, from County Kilkenny, has been put on the list due to debts of £8,935.35.

It means she has become a disqualified person, which bars her from entering any premises licensed by the BHA or associating with any licence-holder.

Diore Lia, who had a Racing Post Rating of 52, was trained by John Jenkins when she was declared to run in the Derby, for which she was 1,000-1.

She was due to take her chance to fulfil an ambition of Richard Aylward, Todd's brother and the filly's breeder, who was hoping to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital.

The BHA intervened to prevent Jenkins' apprentice Gina Mangan taking the ride at Epsom due to her inexperience, and then the filly was scratched on the day of the Classic due to injury. No entries have since been made for Diore Lia.

BHA spokesman Robin Mounsey said: "Mary Todd has been placed on the forfeit list as a result of unpaid fees in relation to races in Britain."

Aylward was on the forfeit list for 15 years due to unpaid bills over the horse Carpe Momentum, who was left among the entries for the 2002 Derby despite being a gelding. Aylward's name was removed from the list in March this year.
