A phone call from the BHA on Thursday morning failed to placate owner Craig Buckingham after the furore at Nottingham the previous afternoon when his horse Magic Pulse was withdrawn in error from the £25,000 Sprint Final of the Grassroots Series.

Buckingham, who has more than 20 horses in training, plans to make a significant reduction in the number he keeps in Britain and send a team to be kept in France.

“The BHA rang me this morning, which was what I expected,” Buckingham said. “They were very apologetic and made all the right noises.
