4th,
2m maiden hurdle, Punchestown, January 16
Monaghan
trainer Anthony McCann has his horses in fine form,
mostly at Dundalk, but his good novice hurdler Cillians Charm won at
Clonmel on Tuesday and this juvenile hurdler again ran well at
Punchestown the day before.
The gelded son of Iffraaj was a winning two-year-old for Mark Johnston in 2021 and cost just 6,500gns at the autumn horses-in-training sale and he could prove to be a bargain. He was not beaten far in two juvenile maiden hurdles before Christmas and stepped up on that again. He raced keenly early on, was making some headway when blundering at the second-last, and again he was not good at the last after running out of racing room. To stay on in fourth, beaten nine lengths, was a fair effort.
He now qualifies for handicaps and there is every likelihood he will come more into his own on better ground in the spring and summer. He is one to keep the right side of and he has the option of the Flat too.
