Melon will be taking on a few much more experienced rivals in the Unibet International Hurdle (3.05) at Cheltenham on Saturday and goes there in good form following his win at Down Royal last month.

He ran second in a couple of Grade 1 novice hurdles last season and on official ratings he looks to have plenty on his plate taking on The New One, My Tent Or Yours and company.

However, we decided on Saturday’s race as the next step forward for him rather than running him in one of the Grade 1s over Christmas and as he is a young improving horse we’re hoping that will prove an advantage. He ran second in the Supreme Novices' Hurdle last season and more experience of Cheltenham should do him good with the future in mind.
