After round one of the Australian PGA Championship, I was singing, to the tune of Kumbaya, for a full hour: “Min Woo Lee, my Lord, Min Woo Lee; Min Woo Lee, my Lord, Min Woo Lee; Min Woo Lee, my Lord, Min Woo Lee; oh Lord, Min Woo Lee.”

And that, in anyone's language, is a sign that my brain is not exactly firing on a stable set of cylinders as 2019 draws to a close. An hour of precious time during the festive period should not be devoted to paying homage to a 21-year-old golfer you have never met by bastardising the words of a world-famous hymn.

But I could not contain myself. My lone concern about the chances of Min Woo Lee in the Oz PGA was that he was making his course debut and might need time to adjust to uncharted terrain, but he opened with a 68 to move just one shot behind, with an attractive Friday-morning tee-time ahead.
