Imagine if, in the first week of this year, you had been asked to name the trainer who would provide a sole Irish success over the course of Arc weekend at Longchamp.

Back at the start of January, when Gavin Cromwell was celebrating a fairytale victory in the Welsh Grand National with the 13-year-old Raz De Maree, it would have taken an extended guessing game in the manner of the Rumpelstiltskin story to come up with his name as the trainer of a Group 2-winning filly at one of Europe's most prestigious fixtures.
