'What is the point?' - owners could walk away if racing bows to misguided calls

Did you ever build a house of cards when you were younger? I'm talking about the one shaped like a pyramid and which relied on a steady hand and sturdy base to reach the end.

You could spend as long as you liked perfecting the structure but a faint knock to one of the linchpin cards at the base would have a disastrous outcome.

When considering the structure of British racing and recent calls by some to target lower-grade races as a way of reducing the volume of racing, the picture left in my mind was of someone clumsily whipping a card away from the bottom and the whole thing collapsing.
