Just as many trainers invariably bemoan the fact that it always seems to be their best horses who seem to get a leg, break down or suffer a serious injury, since hearing the tragic news about Freddy Tylicki I have asked myself 'Why does it always seem to happen to the nice guys?' For make no mistake, Freddy is one hell of a nice guy.

The picture of him on the front page of Sunday's Racing Post was a rarity as it captured him in sombre mood. Whenever I have met him he has had a smile on his face.

Freddy is one of life's good guys, a pleasure to meet and someone who brings sunshine into the most dismal of days. If the world were full of people like him then it would be a far better place.
