Racehorse welfare was the number-one priority in the BHA’s recent annual report and the issue looks set to be high on the agenda over the next few weeks.

Jumps fans are counting down the days to the return of racing at Cheltenham at the end this month, but the BHA has yet to publish the findings from its review of the equine fatalities at this year’s festival.

The subject has also attracted political interest with Roger Godsiff, the Labour MP for Birmingham Hall Green, tabling three written questions to ministers on the issue.
