Wayne Hutchinson, Josh Moore and Paul Townend join our expert panel
Baron Alco made all to win the BetVictor Gold Cup. How high do you think he can climb this season?
Wayne Hutchinson, jockey It was an impressive performance. He’s beaten a solid yardstick in Frodon and overall has a pretty solid profile. What might be more important further down the line is the fact he brings good Cheltenham Festival form to the table and I’m sure Gary Moore will hope he can progress further this season, in spite of the inevitable say the handicapper is going to have.
Phil Kirby, trainer He jumped really well and was obviously very game. Whether he’ll keep getting a lead as easy as that remains to be seen, however. He’ll have to improve again and will need more if he wants to compete in the bigger handicaps later in the season, but he’s going the right way and still has potential.
Josh Moore, jockey His form as a novice was fantastic against horses proven in Graded company. He certainly has another big race in him and although he is small, you could see running over the National fences. If he doesn’t end up with a silly mark you could see him at Cheltenham in March, but he would be made for Aintree at some stage.
