The fixture list is such an enormously complex issue in British racing that this time last year the Racing Post ran a four-part series examining the subject.

Twelve months on nothing has changed and now the stalemate has pushed one part of the sport to breaking point.

Summer jumping looks to be on its last legs. The average race in June contained fewer than seven runners, punters have little interest in it according to bookmakers, and even trainers have had enough.
