It is a measure of the disenchantment that festers beneath the surface of the Irish racing industry that a week that might have led to unanimous acclaim for the unprecedented success of the raiders at the Cheltenham Festival has been punctuated with impassioned pleas for reform.

What happened in the Cotswolds should be heralded for the awe-inspiring triumph that it was, but many balanced reviews of the mind-boggling 19-winner haul have observed that such splendour needs to be qualified. There is a reason for that prudence.
