The United Nations has one, the Commonwealth has one, Nato has one and now Ascot, Ayr, Chester, Goodwood, Newbury and York have one.

Charles Barnett has been given the title of secretary general of the six major tracks that make up the Large Independent Racecourse Group, an appointment fraught with interest.

Others in British racing might protest but Barnett's description of the six tracks as a shop window for British racing and a powerful driver for drawing investment from abroad into the sport holds plenty of weight.
