Tiger Roll: Grand National achievements will never better the efforts of Arkle

I must take issue with the overhyped comment from David Jennings (February 12) stating that Tiger Roll has the chance to become the most famous racehorse of all time!
Even if he was to win five Grand Nationals on the trot – bearing in mind the fences and distance have been very much modified since Red Rum’s day, and the weights are compressed so no horse is allocated more than 11st 10lb – he will never be remembered as the most famous. That mantle remains with the greatest chaser, Arkle.
Let’s be frank here, Tiger Roll has never even run in the Cheltenham Gold Cup – as his connections know he isn’t good enough. I would be astonished if his Timeform rating doesn’t remain at least two stone inferior to Arkle by the time he is retired.
