Lambourn is best known for jump racing, be it the glory days of Fred Winter and Fulke Walwyn, Nicky Henderson's evergreen tremendous career or the popular Grand National triumph of Many Clouds for Oliver Sherwood.

So when it becomes known one is a resident of the Berkshire village, people remark how nice it must be to rub shoulders with such a friendly bunch of jumps trainers.

But that is not to say the Flat brigade in RG17 aren't as helpful as their winter counterparts, and compelling evidence of that was provided recently when Charlie Hills came to the rescue of a local Sunday-morning kickabout.
