Sunday Series is a breath of fresh air - so why not extend it to the jumps?

The doom and gloom surrounding the sport has been ratcheted up to new levels over the summer. Lurking around every corner are fresh concerns over field sizes, the race calendar, prize-money and a dwindling horse population among many others.

It is a good job the on-track action has lifted the mood then, and one of the biggest success stories of the last few months has been the Sky Bet Sunday Series, the second season of which concluded at Sandown last week.

It is simplicity personified – good competitive racing for excellent prize-money with no gimmicks attached. It is such an easy thing to get right that it shouldn’t even warrant praise as it should be the norm, but alas, it is a clear outlier at the moment.
