Ryan Moore was 7-2 to be Ballydoyle number one this year - how bonkers was that?
At 10.42am on October 22 last year an unusual email landed in my inbox from Paddy Power's Paul Binfield. 'Paddy prices up Ballydoyle 2021 retained rider', was written in the subject box.
The prices: 1-6 Colin Keane, 7-2 Ryan Moore, 7 Seamie Heffernan, 25 Oisin Murphy, 50 Hollie Doyle, 66 Wayne Lordan, Tom Marquand.
That was surely the best 7-2 shot since Vautour won the Supreme. And, no, of course I didn't back him. Nor did I back Vautour. I was on Irving at 3-1 that day. Some idiot I was. Some things never change.
