Revolving door at Westminster leaves racing and betting with fresh concerns

The House of Commons is due to rise on Thursday for conference season, but not before the subject of British racing is debated thanks to the reappearance of a prominent political figure.

The last bit of business MPs will discuss in parliament before recess will be the 'Contribution of horseracing to the economy', a debate brought by one Matt Hancock.

Racing has understandably not featured prominently in the former health secretary's public comments in recent months but the sport is the subject he has chosen as he "dips a toe into the placid pre-recess Commons waters," as the BBC put it this week, now he has returned to the backbenches.
