Retraining of racehorses must become a bigger priority, for all our sakes
August is the month for meeting your equine heroes, wherever you live.
It all kicked off with the Dublin Horse Show, where former Henry de Bromhead stalwart Sizing Australia added victory in the Irish Thoroughbred Marketing racehorse to riding horse class to a career CV that boasts a win at the Cheltenham Festival and two more over the banks at Punchestown.
Mumford failed to find the winner's enclosure over the course of four seasons with Richard Hannon and then Geoffrey Harker, but showed there is plenty of life beyond the racecourse when beating allcomers on Saturday to claim overall victory at the Retraining of Racehorses [RoR] Goffs UK National Championships at Aintree, a show that also featured Cue Card and Coneygree among a slew of familiar names.
