A Group 1 featuring a Guineas heroine, the winner of one of the races of the season in the Falmouth Stakes and three other scorers at the top level really should be the highlight of a day like Saturday. For ITV viewers, and sadly for racing, it won't be.

The Sun Chariot Stakes – a race that usually crowns the best filly over a mile in Britain and Ireland and might well live up to its billing this year given the quality of the field – takes place at Newmarket, yet the main ITV team will be based at Ascot and, according to an ITV press release, there will be only race injects from Newmarket via a sole presenter.

This is bitterly disappointing. When racing gets the chance to showcase itself to a wider audience, we want to see the very best the sport has to offer. A Group 1 like the Sun Chariot should be the crescendo, with time spent building up the intrigue and anticipation.
