Racing needs a strong, united Horsemen's Group to counter power of racecourses

There are many issues that need to be addressed as British racing examines how it is governed, and the way the sport's participants are represented within a new structure is one of the more important ones.

When it was announced that Annamarie Phelps was to stand down as chair of the BHA at the end of May, she said discussions around a new governance structure that would provide clarity on the BHA's role as governing body and regulator were at a key stage.

However, the way the Horsemen's Group would work in a revised system is another area which needs to be sorted out, and one which was likely to have been discussed at its board meeting this week.
