Racing must stop trying to be something it's not - team events just don't work

It was a typically witty line from Willie Mullins.

"The more races I win, the further I seem to fall behind," laughed the 16-time champion trainer after he had 'captained' his team to victory in both races that made up the inaugural Barney Curley Charity Cup at Bellewstown on Wednesday, yet still ended up losing. He even had a one-two in the second heat. I know, it made no sense to me either.

The final score was 70-64 to Team Dettori, not that anybody actually cared, and the fact a team with no wins next to its name ended up beating the team that won both races in the competition was a perfectly apt conclusion to an event held in memory of Curley.
