Racing could be transformed by climate change - and heatwave must focus minds

It will not have escaped the notice of readers that temperatures in Britain have soared to record levels in recent days.

Of course there have been plenty of people saying they do not know what all the fuss is about and that everybody spent the long, hot summer of 1976 capering about with ice creams singing The Sun Has Got His Hat On.

From my recollection of that time, there was great concern about the lack of water and people had to collect it from standpipes as supplies had fallen so low. That, and there were swarms of ladybirds.
