The pace of the jumps season has moved up a gear and there is a great deal to look forward to as we head into the second half of the year-long campaign.

However, it gives me no pleasure to highlight potential negatives at this stage because, as the tempo steps up, the polarisation that has been a feature of recent seasons is becoming increasingly acute.

First, let us look at some of the highlights of the past week. Pride of place goes to Footpad, electric under Daryl Jacob on his chasing debut at Navan.
