Strong demand for Irish point-to-pointers is reflected in the results of last Friday's Tattersalls Cheltenham November Sale.

While the top price of £190,000, paid for a pair of four-year-old geldings by Getaway and Sholokhov, was not remarkable by current standards, the strength of the market is illustrated by the overall figures. Forty of the 44 lots changed hands for an aggregate of just over £3 million, with nine horses making a six-figure sum, and an average price of £77,375.

Headline deals are exactly that. The median figure is the most accurate guide to the solidity of any bloodstock sale. Irish-based producers can take heart from Friday's median price of £65,000, representing an 8 per cent increase on the corresponding sale last year, and an indicator of keen demand at all levels.
