Pertemps series has worked well and we're proud of it

Following on from David Jennings' column (January 15) on why the Pertemps Final should be removed from the Cheltenham Festival rosta, I would respectfully point out that, for the final, there are 22 qualifiers – 13 in England, one in Wales, one in Scotland, two in Ireland and five in France.

Each of the races in Britain and Ireland are attended by a represen­tative from our company and they have grown in stature over 30 years. At many of the racecourses they now make it the feature race of the day.

Each race is incredibly well supported with an average of more than 20 horses per race, giving approximately 350 horses a run in the qualifiers. The standard has ­continually risen year on year, and I believe that this year’s entry will be of the highest calibre ever.
