You could almost hear the collective groans from messrs Henderson, Tizzard and Nicholls before Saturday's Many Clouds Chase at Aintree.
The omitting of the three fences in the home straight due to low sun was as uncomfortable a sight as the bright glare making the jockeys squint.
Months of precise planning to plot the best route to the Cheltenham Gold Cup for Santini, Native River and Frodon pretty much went up in smoke, with the removal of nine of the 19 fences making the Grade 2 a severely diminished jumping test.
