O'Leary was right to run Delta Work - but the handicapper was right about Tiger

A year ago we learned fairly conclusively that when a tree falls in a wood and there’s no one around to hear it, it still makes a noise. Rachael Blackmore’s thunder reverberated all around the world when she felled a few colossal old oaks in the Cotswolds and at Aintree.

Nonetheless, it was an incongruously sterile experience for the lucky few present and those of us watching on from afar felt hopelessly removed. We wanted to hear the boom when centuries-old sporting edifices came crashing down.

In that context, the 2022 Cheltenham Festival made for resounding atonement. It was everything we hoped it would be and so much more.
