Numbers to make your head spin - but some will be more informative than others

There may not always be strength in numbers but you do not need to be Rachel Riley to know there is often plenty of interesting information in them. Just think of the talking points thrown up by 13.6 million, 12 and 1.06 million from last weekend.

No, they are not the number of bets that went down when Silver Streak was carried out, or of punters kicking themselves when four-time Grade 1 winner Yorkhill went in at 66-1.

Rather, 13.6 million is the career prize-money in pounds won by remarkable mare Almond Eye after her farewell victory in the Japan Cup, making her the highest-earning horse in Japanese racing history and third behind Winx and Arrogate worldwide.
