A quiet end-of-week chat with Willie Mullins on Sunday afternoon revealed he was intent, in the words of the song, to be a man "busy doing nothing" for the day.

He said: "Jackie just asked if I'd like to go out for a walk and I said this was the one day of the year when I was just going to surf the sofa and watch the television."

Turning down an amble round with the wife was understandable as he spent the first two days of the festival walking the plank. But two blank afternoons and some juddering reverses never changed his demeanour one jot. Forget hurricanes, this really was the calm in the eye of the storm.
