Much change is needed to safeguard racing's health

I have been struck by three recent pieces in the Racing Post and the inter-relationships between them.

The first was the special report on the ROA's new owners' strategy (September 19), an investment which is desperately needed but I fear will have little effect without urgent action by all industry participants to change behaviours.

The second was a very interesting article soliciting the views of three experienced sales attendees (September 22) in David Menuisier, Amanda Skiffington and Hetta Stevens on their thoughts for the upcoming yearling sales season in which, when asked about their concerns regarding the 'market', they effectively echoed the need for an owners' strategy as there were insufficient new participants entering the ownership ranks for the bloodstock being produced.
