Mottershead presented a very one-sided view over apprentices
Having followed the public debate on apprentice fees in the Racing Post that started with Lee Mottershead’s article (July 10) and having been named by him in his article on July 17, I feel I must respond.
For more than 20 years I have been a trainer who tries to support apprentices with rides, tuition and lifestyle advice. During that time I have been fortunate to have through my hands apprentices of the calibre of Neil Callan, Joey Haynes, Martin Lane, Darren Williams, Paul Mulrennan, Andrew Elliott and Declan Cannon, to name a few, along with several others who rode their first winners while attached to my yard. Clifford Lee and Jordan Vaughan are here at present, both doing very well.
I don’t think any of them past or present would complain they were treated unfairly, financially or otherwise.
