The Grand National gives us stories like no other horserace.

Not all the stories are as momentous as those provided by the likes of Red Rum, Aldaniti and Don't Push It (to name just three), while sometimes, such as in the void race and bomb scare years, the race has galloped on to front pages for unwanted reasons.

Inevitably, though, there is a story that is easy to tell. Those employed in the media often approach a major contest trying to work out who the best winners would be, judged through the story the horse and connections would provide.
