There was some interesting research published earlier this week by FIFPro – the worldwide representative organisation for professional footballers – on the topic of player burnout.

The nuts and bolts of the report highlighted footballers are now being tasked with more games and less time to recover from them with the recommended five-day gap between fixtures regularly being eroded.

The data showed that footballers who played during this 'critical zone' are at an increased risk of injury and career longevity issues, prompting fresh calls from the organisation for 'radical revision of the calendar'. Don't get Jurgen Klopp started on that topic!
