Misleading parallels with Australia pushed BHA into dubious equine flu measures

Any inclination to adopt a sympathetic view of the BHA's handling of the equine flu saga is trumped by an overwhelming urge to address the situation with appropriate rigour.

Like that of so many others, my initial response to the regulator's decisive action last Wednesday night was to commend those involved for taking precautionary measures to manage what was portrayed as a real crisis unfolding.

However, the more detail that was revealed the following day, the more dubious those measures began to look.
