Millions at stake in shop stand-off with year likely to end on a familiar note
The year began with a betting shop commercial stand-off and it looks as though it will end with one as well, only with different players involved and different racecourses potentially affected.
As 2017 started Ladbrokes Coral and Betfred were not showing pictures from a number of Arena Racing Company (Arc) courses as they had not signed up to the new betting shop service The Racing Partnership (TRP), in which Arc is the driving force.
The impasse was eventually resolved, but not without Arc taking a financial hit running into millions of pounds, although the company was backed to the hilt by its billionaire owners the Reuben Brothers.
