Media rights income shouldn't be a mystery but is only part of a bigger picture

One might say it was ever thus, but the level of hostility being directed from some of the sport's participants towards racecourses has reached a new high. Those participants are calling on racecourses to be transparent over media rights income. In the interests of both sides, greater transparency is needed.

At a time when racing's stakeholders should be displaying unity, there is conflict and acrimony.

Horsemen – an outdated term but used here for simple recognition – have long been unhappy about British prize-money. They are right to be unhappy. Whether those in receipt of their ire are universally guilty as charged is less clear.
