Daniel Collins and Phil Dennis also deliver their verdicts
Great, good or otherwise – what did you make of the Derby?
Daniel Collins, Betfair trader Going into the race the only potential superstar was Sir Dragonet, and he ran a huge race considering he made his debut only in April. Of the rest involved in the finish it looks like Aidan O’Brien has churned out yet another batch of solid if not spectacular Group 1 animals.
Phil Dennis, jockey You could make a case for four or five of them going into the race and it didn’t disappoint with such a close finish. Anthony Van Dyck didn’t look like the winner at the two-furlong pole but once he got organised he picked up well – it was a very good performance.
Luke Morris, jockey It was exciting – any one of the first five were in with a chance with a furlong to run. It’s an unbelievable achievement for Aidan O’Brien to have so many high-class three-year-olds in with a chance. Anthony Van Dyck was a battle-hardened three-year-old who danced every dance at two. I can’t see why he cannot win more Group 1s as the year goes on.
