Nobody who has lived anywhere in the world for the last couple of years can have failed to notice that bad news is in very long supply, but in racing we're used to it.

We've had hardly any prize-money for 30 years and everybody bar three trainers and a couple of jockeys is skint.

It makes you wonder why anybody starts riding or training in the first place, until you speak to somebody who loves point-to-pointing. Somebody like Luke Harvey, with whom I spent a morning this week at his new house, which he shares with his fiancée Charlotte, a Jack Russell called Bramble and several horses.
