Let's scrap the Stayers' Hurdle and have a Paddy Power Hurdle over 2m6f instead
Perhaps it was watching two horses who could have been running in the Pertemps Final scrapping it out up the hill a few weeks ago, or remembering the way Cole Harden was able to make all in 2015. It could even have been seeing the 2018 winner Penhill put in his place all season by the likes of Honeysuckle, Apple's Jade and Benie Des Dieux. Whatever it was, I cannot help thinking the Stayers' Hurdle has gone stale and needs to go.
That might sound abrupt and yes, I am fully aware Big Buck's won his fourth title only eight years ago, but the race is going through a bit of an identity crisis at the moment and it could be the perfect time for a face-lift, especially since the kings of innovation are the current sponsors.
Let’s scrap the Stayers' Hurdle, have a Paddy Power Hurdle over 2m6f instead and lock in the sponsorship for as long as possible.
