Less was more with ITV's enjoyable coverage of Sandown's evening card

ITV racing's coverage of Sandown’s evening meeting was welcome and the laid-back approach was most refreshing. There were no other races from other meetings so, even allowing for ad breaks, there was plenty of time to fill in between races.

They somehow managed without there being a hundred people on the presenting team – just Ed Chamberlin and Francesca Cumani sharing main duties, Jason Weaver providing expert analysis, Frankie Dettori as a guest pundit and Richard Hoiles providing the commentary.

There were no regular reports from the betting ring on what would be a relatively quiet meeting compared to Royal Ascot and no sticking a microphone up the jockey’s nose.
