Possibly the highlight of my life came this week when my daughter asked me to read her the Mr Perfect book – part of the famous Mr Men series – before she went to bed.

I offered a tired, feeble wisecrack: “Oh, they wrote this one about me, didn't they?”, feigning self-esteem, then Grace replied: “No, the one about you is not Mr Perfect – it's Mr Lovely.”

I proceeded to read Mr Perfect while choked with happiness that my daughter's verdict of me was so positive. I think I would rather be labelled lovely than perfect, anyway. Nobody's perfect – isn't that what they say? Lovely is about as good as I reckon I can get.
